During my Christmas market trip through Alsace, one of the best decisions I made was staying overnight in one of the smaller villages instead of only visiting for the day.
While many travelers choose to base themselves in Strasbourg or Colmar, staying in Riquewihr gives you a completely different experience. Once the day-trippers leave, the village becomes quiet, the Christmas lights glow against the medieval buildings, and you get to experience one of France’s most beautiful villages in a way many visitors miss. You also get to experience the quite slow mornings before the crowds.
For my stay in Riquewihr, I chose B. Espace Suites, a charming luxury guest accommodation located right in the heart of the medieval village.
The Location: Staying in the Heart of Medieval Riquewihr
B. Espace Suites is located inside the historic center of Riquewihr, surrounded by the colorful half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and medieval architecture that make this village one of the most beautiful destinations in Alsace.
During the Christmas season, this location is absolutely magical. You can step outside your door and immediately be surrounded by Christmas lights, decorated storefronts, and the charm of a centuries-old village.
One of my favorite parts about staying here was being able to explore Riquewihr after the crowds left. During the day, the streets are filled with visitors exploring the Christmas market, but in the evening, the village becomes peaceful and almost feels frozen in time.
From my bed, I could see the Christmas lights glowing outside my window, which felt like something out of a Christmas movie.
Beyond Christmas markets, Riquewihr is also a perfect base for exploring the Alsace Wine Route. Surrounded by vineyards and located near other popular destinations like Colmar, Ribeauvillé, and Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, it is an ideal location for exploring the region.

This historic medieval building has been carefully renovated while preserving the original character of the property.

After spending full days walking through Christmas markets, exploring nearby villages, and eating your way through Alsace, having a comfortable place to return to makes a huge difference.
What I loved most about B. Espace Suites was that it felt like part of the destination itself. The rooms are so spacious and comfortable.
Being able to walk outside at night, see the village glowing with Christmas lights, and then return to a cozy historic suite was one of my favorite memories from my Alsace trip.
Dining & Drinks
One of the added benefits of staying at B. Espace Suites is the incredible number of dining options within walking distance. Because the property is located right in the heart of Riquewihr, you can easily step outside and find everything from snacks to unforgettable dining experiences.
D’Brendelstub Restaurant is located inside B. Espace Suites and offers traditional Alsatian cuisine in a historic setting that fits perfectly with the charm of the village.
If you’re looking for a more elevated dining experience, La Table Gourmet is located just a short walk away and offers Michelin-starred cuisine.
For a quick and affordable option, I also stopped at O P’tit Snack. They offer sandwiches and other easy options, making it a great choice when you want something quick outside of the markets.
During my stay, I personally focused on eating my way through the markets, which is one of my favorite parts of visiting the Christmas Markets!
One of the best parts of staying in a village like Riquewihr is that you do not need to get in a car or plan transportation for every meal. Everything is right outside your door.

Staying overnight gives you an experience that a day trip simply cannot provide. Instead of arriving, exploring, and leaving with the crowds, you get to wake up inside one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Absolutely.
The biggest reason I would choose B. Espace Suites again is the location. Staying inside Riquewihr during Christmas season was an experience I will never forget.
The charming rooms, historic details, and ability to walk outside directly into the Christmas lights made this the perfect place to experience the magic of Alsace.
