A complete guide to the Christmas Markets in Kaysersberg, France

Out of all the Christmas markets I visited in Alsace, Kaysersberg had a different feeling than the others. While Colmar is larger and more lively, and Riquewihr feels like stepping into a Christmas movie, Kaysersberg felt more like I was experiencing a traditional village Christmas celebration.

The setting also plays a huge role. Kaysersberg is surrounded by vineyards and has a beautiful medieval center with cobblestone streets, half-timbered buildings, and the ruins of a castle overlooking the village. During Christmas, the streets are decorated with lights, the wooden chalets blend into the historic surroundings, and the whole village feels incredibly cozy.

You’ll need to plan accordingly since the Kaysersberg Christmas market is only open Friday through Sunday. That being said, even if your schedule does not work with those dates, I would still make a stop in Kaysersberg. The village itself is absolutely beautiful during the Christmas season, and with all the decorations and lights, you will still get that magical Christmas feeling even when the market stalls are closed.

How to Get to Kaysersberg and around the Alsace Region

One of the things I loved about visiting the Alsace Christmas markets was how easy it was to explore the region without renting a car. While having a car can give you more flexibility, it is absolutely possible to visit Alsace using trains, buses, and the special Christmas market shuttles.

Kaysersberg is a smaller village, which is part of what makes it so charming, but it also means that getting there during Christmas market season requires a little more planning. The village is extremely popular, and the roads can get very crowded, especially on weekends when visitors from all over the region come to experience the market.

If you do choose to drive, be prepared for traffic and limited parking options. Many visitors end up parking outside of the village and walking in, and during busy times, having a car does not necessarily mean you will arrive faster. The narrow roads and large crowds can make navigating the area stressful, especially if you are trying to visit multiple Christmas markets in one day.

The easiest way to visit Kaysersberg during the Christmas season is by using the Christmas market shuttle. During the holiday season, special shuttles connect popular villages throughout Alsace, including Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, and other nearby towns. These shuttles are a great option because you can enjoy the market without worrying about traffic, parking, or navigating unfamiliar roads.

One thing to keep in mind is that the shuttle drop-off point is not directly in the Christmas market area. From the bus stop, it is about a 15-minute walk into the village center where the market is located.

The shuttle schedules typically run on select dates during the Christmas market season, and tickets can be purchased in advance online. For the 2026 season, the Christmas shuttles will operate from November 27 through December 20, with tickets going on sale November 12, 2026. These routes are popular and tickets do sell out, so if you are planning a Christmas market trip, this is something you will want to arrange ahead of time.

What to eat in Kaysersberg

The food at the Kaysersberg Christmas Market is very similar to what you will find throughout Alsace, with plenty of traditional dishes. One of my favorite things about the Christmas markets is that eating is such a big part of the experience. I love walking around to the different stalls, trying a little but of everything, and enjoying the atmosphere.

One of my favorite Christmas market foods is a grilled sausage with sauerkraut and spicy mustard. You really can’t go wrong with this.

Some other foods you will find throughout the Kaysersberg Christmas Market include tarte flambée (flammekueche), pretzels, spätzle, raclette, gingerbread, bredele cookies, and other Alsatian specialties.

Of course, no Christmas market visit is complete without trying vin chaud, also known as mulled wine. This warm, spiced wine is one of the best parts of wandering through the markets, and many vendors serve it in collectible mugs that make a fun souvenir from your trip.
